From the 1st – 17th of August 2008, the Legal Resources Centre held an on-line fundraising art auction. Artists ranging from young and up-and-coming Tafadzwa Mukwashi, in her second year at the University of Cape Town who has held successful exhibitions, to those more established and internationally recognized such as William Kentridge, donated their paintings, photographs and sculptures. Authors, whose names are familiar to many in Africa and beyond such as Nelson Mandela, George Bizos and Nadine Gordimer, also donated autographed books.

All the art works, many of which were framed at no cost to the LRC by generous framers and galleries, were curated by Manda Bester with the Development Bank of Southern Africa, and exhibited at the Goethe-Institut, Johannesburg in a space open to the public.

The LRC wishes to thank all the artists, authors, sponsors and contributors who generously donated to us their art works, skills, space and time and through such efforts support us in the continuing struggle for justice for all in South Africa.
