2011 07 15 Invitation to a Film Screening and a Reception

The Legal Resources Centre has great pleasure in inviting you to a screening of the award winning documentary Street Kids United, featuring the work of Durban based NGO Umthombo, followed by a reception at the Royal Hotel in Durban on 29th July. The screening, in the presence of Tom Hewitt, Director of Umthombo, the film makers and LRC Directors, Trustees, Staff, Alumni and guests, is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the LRC, the work of its clients (of which Umthombo is one), and the people and organisations who have been part of its remarkably rich vein of history over the past 30 years.

Tom Hewitt, recent recipient of an OBE in recognition of his work, will say a few words about the Film and the impact of the his partnership with the LRC on street children work in Durban at the reception after the Film.

Reflecting on the rich vein of its 30 year history, the LRC is paying tribute to the many people and organisations who have been part of its remarkable journey to date. This event is an opportunity to say thank you and to invite you to continue to partner with us to realise the promise of our constitution for the just, stable and humane society we all seek.

This invitation is part of our programme Lefa la LRC – Growing the legacy of the LRC. Please join us and our distinguished guest speaker, Andrea Gabriel SC for this reunion and renewal.  We look forward to welcoming you.

ABOUT THE FILM:

STREET KIDS UNITED

Tim Pritchard, South Africa,
United Kingdom, 2011
With an appeal that extends from the world’s wealthiest to forming the dreams of children growing up in dire poverty, football remains an international phenomenon. Street Kids United was shot in Durban during the months leading up to last year’s universally celebrated FIFA World Cup, which was held on African soil for the first time in history. The film explores how a simple sporting event, the street child World Cup, can change lives and raise the hopes of a group of homeless children and how a game can empower people both on and off the field.

English and Zulu with English subtitles, 90 min
